Welcoming a new life into the world is a journey filled with anticipation, hope, and sometimes great distances to find the perfect setting for such a monumental event. These first-time parents travelled from far away to work with the midwives at Alba Birth Center leading up to and during the birth of their sweet little boy, Kai. Each family we serve is so special to us in their own way, and the bonds created during pregnancy and birth will last a lifetime.
This first time family came to us from afar. Their desire to birth in an environment that so strongly supports physiological birth was evident at every appointment. It was beautiful to witness their confidence grow, just as momma’s belly grew, with each passing week. What started as prenatals with pages of questions, gave way to intentional conversation, particularly around momma’s desire to be as prepared as she could be for the postpartum stage, and dad’s worries surrounding keeping his family safe in their journey to the birth center. Needless to say, our whole team could hardly wait for the day when the call came for this baby boy to make his arrival!
The day arrived, and the family made their way to the birth center, along with their doula. With her doula’s support and husbands encouragement, she labored through the day. Working together with her baby, it was mid-afternoon when she started feeling the urge to push. As she traveled through the second stage of her labor, she worked so hard. Midwife Heather spoke words of wisdom, “You have to be the one to decide to do this. Only you can bring your baby.”
Momma gathered her strength and resolve, moving to the birth stool to bring her baby. After 8 minutes and few contractions there, her baby was in her arms. This sweet relief of a family united enveloped the room. She did it. They did it. And nothing will ever be the same.
