Our Services

Based On Research, Proven By Outcome

The health and safety of you and your baby are our top priority. By delivering evidence-based care, we provide the very best practices in midwifery care proven by research. We are always raising the bar of excellence in our services so you can enjoy the gold standard in maternity and newborn health care in Appleton and the Fox Valley.

Wherever you decide to give birth, you can enjoy our high level of midwifery care at our birth center, at your home or at the hospital. We also offer you comprehensive prenatal care, labor and delivery, postpartum care for mother and baby, and lactation expertise.

Prenatal Care

We devote 45 minutes of one-on-one time for you with one of our midwives. She will tailor your care plan to your specific needs so you can know and trust her. Prenatal visits at our birth center include a physical, evaluation of blood pressure and lab work, nutrition, activity and stress levels. We have a fantastic in-office lending library for additional educational resources.

Arvigo® Therapy for Supporting Pregnancy

The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® (ATMAT) is a system of therapeutic touch that has its roots in the traditional people of Belize and Central America. Alba is home to one of only a handful of Arvigo® practitioners in the entire state of Wisconsin.

Our professional Arvigo® sessions are an important part of a healthy pregnancy. We find mothers who received regular sessions throughout their pregnancies have shorter labors, with fewer babies in non-optimal positions. Women are additionally empowered through the self-care information they are taught in their sessions.

Comfort Measures for a Natural Birth

Laboring mothers are encouraged to move freely and eat and drink in labor. We provide acupressure, herbs, homeopathy, Arvigo therapy, TENS units, and aromatherapy as well as doula support. All of these have been shown to improve a mother’s experience of pain in labor and birth (and none of these are routinely offered in the hospital). We have specialty birthing pools, specifically designed by a midwife for water birth for safe birth, that allow a laboring mother to instantly relax.

We offer more non-pharmacological methods for comfort in natural birth than any other providers in the Fox Valley.

Delivery & Postpartum Care

When you choose care from a licensed midwife at Alba Birth Center, you receive a specialist comfortable with all the variations of normal birth. We allow women to deliver in positions that are instinctive and natural to them. We encourage squatting, birth stools and water birth. Women in our care are not confined to their backs during delivery. Our standard protocols include optimal cord clamping, immediate skin-to-skin contact for mother and baby, kangaroo care, non-separation of mother and baby, and experienced staff to assist and support the start of your breastfeeding relationship.

An IBCLC trained lactation consultant on staff is there for you with as many appointments as you require for a successful breastfeeding experience. Our on-call lactation program offers all that you need to happily nurse your baby for as long as you desire. La Leche League offers a free breastfeeding support group in our Birth Center.

VBAC

Women who want to deliver naturally after a cesarean deserve gentle care and confidence. Our experienced midwives can help you to decide on a birth place and provider that is right for you. Obstetric research supports that 80% of women will be able to have a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC). We have significant experience and success with VBAC births, just ask our patients.

“Loved working with these ladies. They helped me to have a successful home birth VBAC. It was an amazing birthing experience.” – Mindy

Breech

Our midwives say that breech babies just like to be close to their mothers’ hearts! We know these special babies deserve the opportunity to get into the right position and be treated gently.

If your baby is found to be breech, you may schedule a consultation in our office, even if you plan to birth with another provider. We are experts at blending a custom approach that includes our special positioning, the Webster technique with a partnering chiropractor, moxibustion, and acupressure. We can help you to navigate the confusing messages about breech birth, and help you to decide how and where to give birth.

Hospital Birth Support

Planning to give birth in a hospital? You can still reap the benefits of the Midwifery Model of Care at Alba Birth Center! We offer prenatal visits, doula support during your birth, and personalized postpartum, newborn and lactation services. Arvigo Therapy during your pregnancy can help you to have a normal birth, and our classes are full of information, conversation, and sisterhood. We are so glad you found us!

Lactation Support

Through the work of the Perinatal SafeSpot, we are offering free IBCLC lactation assessment to any person in the community needing help, absolutely free of charge.

Whether you have birthed in our care or not, make an appointment with our lactation consultant today! A new mother should never have to worry about success in breastfeeding, even moments after her baby is born. If you have experienced breastfeeding issues in the past, your experience with us will be different. We will work with you to make sure you experience success.

Alba Birth Center offers the most unique Lactation Program in Appleton and surrounding areas. Only here can a midwife provide primary care to mother and newborn, while also being an IBCLC trained lactation consultant. This means that if your baby is not thriving, or needs special treatment for tongue tie, or you are having physical needs, the same gentle and experienced provider can assess all these issues and create a treatment plan that is successful for mother and baby.

There is no waiting to get in to see our lactation consultant. Any patient can be seen within 24 hours when they have an urgent lactation problem, even on evenings and weekends at home!

Our midwives have documented over thousands of hours of lactation support and have significant personal experience. They have identified and treated many lactation issues, including tongue & lip tie, hyperplasia, milk supply issues, thrush and pain.

“Birth is a miracle. It’s a huge honor to be part of everyday miracles by offering gentle care. As mothers who had our babies with midwives, we want mothers to have the sacred and respectful birth experiences like we did.”
